Waza, meaning “imagine” in Swahili, is an art center founded in 2010 by artists and curators in Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo. It develops exhibitions, publications, and cultural productions to foster experimental artistic practices and promote alternative ways of sharing knowledge.
Waza hosts art collectives, social entrepreneurs, and artists from various disciplines, including visual arts, music, writing, and dance. It features a library, sound studio, web radio, and zine lab.
Recent projects explore African cultural heritage restitution, the commons, art education, and alternative uses of cyberspace in the Global South.
