Tentative Collective

The Tentative Collective is a group of artists, curators, teachers, architects, and collaborators from diverse backgrounds, including fishermen and domestic workers, based in Karachi, Pakistan. Formed in 2011, the collective engages with the city’s unique intersection of global modernity and the rapidly changing urban landscapes of the global south. By navigating Karachi’s precarious urban geographies, the group creates poetic, ephemeral moments that connect with the city’s complex ecological and geological histories.

Featured Project

Gandi Engine Commisson
This is a site-specific workshop that navigates through the Ravi to explore themes of development and destruction, waste and toxicity. Drawing on the Persian meaning of the word ‘Ravi’ as ‘Narrator’ we activate the river as a site of storytelling – tapping into the memories and archives within its subsoil, excavating and re-framing stories of multiple wreckages and ruinations from colonial histories to the neo-colonial present.
