Sounds Beyond The Border

“Sounds Beyond the Border” is a video interview series that explores the migration experiences of Syrian musicians in Turkey through the lens of music. This project highlights refugees’ talents and cultural contributions while emphasizing the potential for building a shared cultural world.

As Syrian refugees navigate life in Turkey, balancing between transience and permanence, fostering a culture of coexistence becomes essential. This can only be achieved through mutual understanding between refugees and local communities. Music serves as a powerful medium for such interaction. Sounds Beyond the Border is a video interview series that seeks to understand the migration experiences of Syrian musicians through their music. Challenging homogenizing and exclusionary perspectives, the series draws attention to refugees’ skills, diversity, and cultural richness.
