SISTORIES

Sistories is a queer Black feminist/womanist literary organization that centers the power of storytelling as a tool for ancestral healing, community building, and resistance. Rooted in the experiences of Southern Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive individuals, Sistories produces zines that allow participants to explore themes of recovery, resilience, and liberation.

The zine is interactive, providing prompts for readers to engage with in order to urge reflection on their personal stories. Complementing their zine is Sib’s Sofa, a platform where writers, artists, and community members gather for intimate conversations and audio recordings of texts from the magazine, creating a communal space for connection and dialogue. Additionally, the group hosts community writing workshops and story sharing circles, nurturing the creative and holistic spirits of Southern Black women and femme writers while fostering a sense of solidarity and empowerment.

Pleasure Paths
Pleasure Paths is the most recent zine released by Sistories. Pleasure Paths is a zine that delves into the profound interplay between pleasure, peril, and embodiment within a society that often weaponizes disembodiment to maintain control. This collection challenges the perceived dissonance between joy and struggle, urging readers to reclaim their bodies and spirits as sites of resistance and radical acceptance. Drawing inspiration from literary foremothers, such as Audre Lorde and Toni Morrison, this particular zine emphasizes that true liberation lies in inhabiting the present moment—a powerful act of harmony with the natural world and a defiance of oppressive systems. Through evocative storytelling, poetry, photography, and reflection, Pleasure Paths explores themes of embodiment as a means to use “underbelly” of society as a force of dangerous creativity and resilience.
