Mophradat

Mophradat, an art activism collective, is dedicated to creating opportunities for artists from the Arab world through inventive approaches to funding, commissioning, collaborating, and gathering. Their work is imaginative, ambitious, inclusive, and hospitable, recognizing the diverse ethnicities, gender identities, religions, ideologies, and languages that make up the Arab world. This collective evolved from the Young Arab Theatre Fund, the first regional arts funding organization, founded in 2004 by Tarek Abou Elfetouh. In 2015, they officially changed their name and mission statement to better communicate their artistic sensibility and the scope of their work.

Mophradat’s programs are designed to address key issues in the art world, particularly focusing on the Arab region. They tackle topics such as sexual abuse in art spaces, promoting collective ideas to keep such abuse out of these environments. Their initiatives include Accomplices, which provides opportunities for a new generation of artists to meet and find their language and affinities. Consortium Commissions is another program that forms a network of support for Arab artists, prominently showcasing their work. Additionally, Orbitals offers upcoming curators the chance to create professional relationships with peers in unfamiliar locations and engage in new regional curatorial exchanges Through these programs, Mophradat fosters a dynamic and maturing artistic community, contributing to critical thinking and disseminating ideas through publishing online and in print.
