Freedom in the Arts (FITA)

Freedom in the Arts (FITA) has three key aims, which are to protect freedom of speech and to offer artists all levels of support to protect their rights, to protect freedom of expression and make sure that the arts are the place where difficult ideas can be addressed, explored and discussed, to uphold the mission of institutions that serve the arts and the public, to make sure they maintain impartiality and are non-ideologically driven.

FITA recognizes that artistic freedom is under the attack of a stifling environment that censures and intimidates. The organization’s goal is to combat the many institutions that actively discriminate against artists and audiences who do not subscribe to their views. FITA advocates for greater accountability in arts funding and a reduction in arts administration expenditure to increase investment in arts production. FITA calls for the strengthening of artists’ legal protection to bring about a fairer arts sector.
