Boomerang Alliance

Formed with the goal of creating a unified voice for both environmental and Indigenous advocacy, the Boomerang Alliance addresses issues such as land rights, mining, climate change, and environmental degradation, all of which disproportionately affect Indigenous communities. Through collaboration with Indigenous activists and communities, the group emphasizes the importance of preserving sacred lands and respecting traditional ecological knowledge in sustainable land management.

In addition to its environmental campaigns, the Boomerang Alliance engages in public advocacy to raise awareness about the intersection of environmental and social justice issues. The alliance has used artistic activism, including visual arts and performance, to highlight the cultural significance of land and the impacts of industrial activities on Indigenous communities. With its commitment to fostering a more just and sustainable future, the Boomerang Alliance works to ensure that Indigenous voices are central to environmental decision-making and policy reforms, advocating for a world where both the land and its people are respected and protected.

Featured Project

Cash for Containers
One of the key projects of the Boomerang Alliance is their work on waste reduction and recycling, particularly through campaigns focused on plastic pollution, one being the “Cash for Containers” campaign. The alliance is a prominent advocate for a National Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) in Australia, aimed at reducing litter and promoting the recycling of beverage containers. This initiative encourages people to return bottles and cans for a refund, thus minimizing waste and promoting a circular economy. The project has gained support from both environmental groups and Indigenous communities, as the waste often affects local landscapes, waterways, and environments that are culturally significant.
