Atmosphere
Atmosphere originated as a short trio, created with the intention of it to be performed in an intimate presentation setting. Witnessing art brings out a unique opportunity to change perspectives, while accessing a unique peace of mind. The work is titled Atmosphere as a reference to both definitions of the word. It’s purpose is to create an atmospheric space within an environment that gives the mind a chance to breathe. It also is a gentle but obvious nod towards the delicate layers of our planet’s atmosphere. While considering our earths environment, we looked more deeply into the different layers that make up our earth’s atmosphere. Each of the six layers consist of their own qualities that make them unique. As the creation process continues, more of Suuvi and Paul’s Etudes are being incorporated to the piece which will be presented as a series of vignettes. These different musical sections will then reflect the different atmospheric layers. Atmosphere originally started as a commission in which Artists Climate Collective was to be included in Trellis Group’s (formerly Greenbiz Group) biodiversity conference, held in San Jose CA. The conference had posted a “call for artists” and Keaton applied with a pitch to present his choreography, soon to become Atmosphere in its form as a trio. The short piece was intended to give the conference attendees an experience that offers a moment of mental space, and a chance to feel peace. Experiencing live performance can relax the brain and allows the viewer to consider things with different perspectives. The intention was to create an atmosphere that gave the audience space to really digest the information they received throughout their time at the conference, and process what they had learned.
